No Smudge No Budge

If you are like me, and can not stand the sight of your eyeliner smeared under your eyes, by the end of the day, then this one is for you.

Ever since I gave birth to Ethan, I have stopped wearing eyeliner on my bottom lids.

I wonder sometimes why I look half dead, and then I realize I am not wearing eyeliner. I just do not have time to keep checking my make-up in the mirror, and I refuse to look like a raccoon all day long! Well, I am sick of looking the way I do..

I was at my hair salon the other day, complaining to my stylist Barry about my eyeliner issues. I told him that I stopped wearing eye liner on my bottom lid, and my reasoning.

That is when he told me about an eyeliner by MAC that is water-proof and does not run all over the place!

Skeptical, I went to Nordstrom and tried some on, wore it through dinner, and was amazed that when I got home it was still where it was supposed to be!

So, of course I ran out and bought it the next day!

The power of Oxy!!

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial...I have to share this story and the amazing power of Oxy Clean!
My husband and I took Ethan with us to happy hour on Saturday. It was a beautiful evening so, naturally I dressed him in a new spring outfit. We each had a glass of vino and then saw that all of our friends were in the park, across the street, with the kiddos and wine! We decided to head over, however, I was a little hesitant, due to the "new spring outfit". Let me explain this outfit- Ethan had on a BRAND NEW pink argyle polo shirt, with BRAND NEW white sneakers!
All was going well, as I tried really hard to keep Ethan out of the mud/dirt. A few glasses of wine in, I lost track of him for a second, and realized he was trying to get himself a cup of what he thought was "wadu"(Ethan's version of water)! Much to our surprise, the cup that he reached for and proceeded to dump on himself was full of RED WINE!!!
Now, if you know me, you can guess my reaction!! I FREAKED!
All I could think of was "the poor pink polo"!! The wine had spilled all down the front of him and of course onto his new sneaks too!
My good friend tried to calm me down by telling me that "oxy clean will get it out"!
From a prior episode with red wine (those of you at my wedding know what I am referring to) I thought that the polo was toast!
I took my friends advice and followed her back to her house, where we sprayed a good amount of Oxy Clean on the polo and then washed it immediately.
Guess what...IT WORKED!! There was not a trace of red wine on the pink polo!!!
I was such a skeptic, and now I am a believer! That stuff really works!
So Moms, if you do not have a stain remover that you can trust...trust me and go get some Oxy Clean!!
Oh BTW- the sneakers are ok too...thanks to my Clorox Wipes!!

Beauty Regimen Help!

This topic is a request from a friend/ old co-worker of mine! I think it's actually good timing to discuss a beauty regimen, as the weather is changing and so is our skin! Here are the steps that I typically follow and some products that I believe in!

I follow this 4 step process:
Cleanse
Exfoliate
Moisturize
Apply Sunscreen

1. Cleanse
I have found that you do not need to spend a lot on a cleanser. Just find one that works with your skin type, and stick with it! AVOID bar soap! Choose a creamy cleanser if you have dry skin and a clear one if you have oily skin. Just use a dime size amount and ALWAYS use lukewarm water! If you have really dry skin, try using a cold cream, that you just wipe off, without water. Do not over wash your face. Experts say once a day is fine.

Suggestions:
Cetaphil-
Skin care professionals and doctors recommend this product.
Specifically designed for dry sensitive skin, but works for most types.

2. Exfoliate
A lot of women forget this step in their weekly routines. Men exfoliate everyday when they shave, which explains why my husband's skin looks so good!
I say exfoliate 3 times a week with a gentle scrub that uses tiny grains (large grains can tear your skin). Scrubs will manually remove dead skin cells, that cause your skin to look dull. Make sure you moisturize immediately following the use of a scrub. The scrub below is called "daily" however I found "daily" to be too much for my skin, so I use it 3 times a week.

Suggestion:
Aveeno Skin Brightening Daily Scrub
This daily facial scrub helps improve skin tone, texture and clarity to reveal brighter, more radiant skin. 2.a To tone or not to tone?
I personally like using a toner to remove the excess make-up or oil after cleansing. Experts say "if you like it use it". So try one and see if it works for you.

3. Moisturize
This is the most important (well besides #4) step in your routine. Moisturizing locks in the moisture in your skin. Even if you have oily skin, you should still moisturize. If your skin feels tight, as mine often does, then your skin is literally begging for more moisture.
When choosing a moisturizer, the perfect one will fit three requirements: It smells best, feels best and goes on without feeling greasy. A quality moisturizer should never irritate or burn skin.

3b. Eye Creams
The skin around our eyes is so thin, that it is prone to wrinkles and fine lines. Squinting is one of the worst things for our eyes. Best thing to do for our eyes is wear a pair of good, protective sunglasses when we are in the sun. When shopping for an eye cream, look for creams with one of these three ingredients: retinoids which will stimulate cell growth, peptides which will boost collagen production and antioxidants, which will fix free radical damage caused by sun and other environmental factors.

Suggestion:

4. Apply Sunscreen
This step is one that I did not find important until well into my twenties! Now, I do not leave the house without a layer of sunscreen on my face.
The #1 cause of wrinkles is sun damage. It's so important to use sunscreen everyday, even during the winter and on cloudy days. A good trick is to purchase two moisturizers: One for at night and one for during the day with UV protection. Do not use moisturizers with SPF at night, the ingredients are not meant to be used 27/7 and can irritate your skin.

If you look on the cover of Lucky Magazine this month you will see one of the trends for Spring 2010, a resin(lucite)cuff.

Lucite is an acrylic resin that has been used for costume jewelry since the 1940's. It has been on trend now for a couple of years. My husband will be pleased to know that I already have a few from years past...phew one less thing to purchase this season!

Although our children spend most of their time in "play clothes", it doesn't mean that they can't be fashion forward!

One of the strongest trends for Spring 2010 is neutral shades. I knew this to be true, however after watching the Golden Globes, where every other celeb was in a nude shade gown, it really drove the point home!

A cure for dry skin!

I don't know about you, but I have such dry skin right now! It's bad enough that my skin is a pasty shade of WHITE...but now it has succombed to winter's wrath and is extremely dry as well! I know as moms, we have very little time to pay attention to ourselves, so here is a quick fix for "winter skin"!
Each winter I try to find the best moisturizer for my skin, and each year I come up short.
Never actually happy with what I found.
This year, is different!
I saw an ad for Vaseline Sheer Infusion in one of my fashion mags this past week, and decided to give yet another moisturizer a try.
I was not disappointed! This stuff really works!

Some moisturizers simply lay on top of the skin, while others rub in a quickly and disappear. Boot Storage

I have a helpful tip for storing your boots! Once this snow finally comes to an end, and the flowers are in bloom, the boots get shoved a side for the fun spring shoes! Unlike the new spring flowers, your boots will start to slump over in your closet if you do not care for them properly.

Yes, you could go out and spend tons of money on boot inserts to keep them upright in your closet, but I have a better idea! Roll up an old magazine and place it inside your boots.
This will prevent them from slouching over, and they will keep their shape all spring/summer long!
So, instead of tossing out your next issue of US Weekly, shove it inside your boots!!

Organic Hair Care

I discovered a new hair care line, that I absolutely love and must share with all of you!! Of course, I am still into the "sulfate free" shampoos, but not really excited about paying $20+ for an 8 ounce bottle! I was at Harris Teeter (VA grocery store) browsing through the grocery store brand shampoos...when I happened upon the organic hair care section. That is were I discovered Giovanni Hair Care. I took at chance on it, because it was $7.99 for the shampoo and $8.99 for the conditioner. I figured, not a huge loss if it is terrible.
I tried it and LOVED it. I use the Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Shampoo for color treated hair and the 50:50 Balance Hydrating conditioner. It makes my hair so shiny and soft, but not too soft, where it is limp.

Here is the description for the shampoo:

For normal to dry hair. Enriched with certified organic botanicals.
Protects chemically enhanced hair color.
Adds moisture and manageability.
Infuses shine every day, all day.
Contains no laurel/laureth sulfates.

When hair is dry, it needs a drink. My Artistic Impressions

Many of you know that my mother is an artist. For those of you who do not, I want to share this with you!!

About a year ago, I decided to promote my very talented mother. Cindy Wallace, my mother, specializes in acrylic art on canvas. Her paintings are a happily-ever-after marriage of vibrant colors, bold brush strokes and a vivid imagination, creating whimsical, eye-catching and often thought provoking work. Primarily self-taught, her work is represented in a growing number of American galleries, and has been acquired in corporate and private collections in the United States and abroad.

Her "people" are what make her paintings so unique and personal. For my wedding, my mother, created a masterpiece that was not only on dispay at our cocktail hour, but is and will hang in my home for years to come! After my wedding, a few of my friends loved this idea, and commissioned my mother to paint an original piece that they too would cherish for a lifetime.

As promised, here are a few other ways that we as moms can energize, naturally throughout the day!

1. Get your day started with the help of a stimulating citrus oil in your shower-
A few drops of lemon or grapefruit oil will do the trick. You can add drops to your bath water(like anyone has time for a bath), add a few drops to your shower floor (more realistic), or to your sponge/cloth and rub the oils all over you. My mom has been begging me to read this little book that she gave to me called,
"Engerize- 100 Natural Ways to Recharge". I guess she feels I need a little energy boost! What mom doesn't right??!! I got a lot out of the book, and thought I would share a few helpful tips each day this week!

Fish oil for skin...

I thought I would stick to skin care this week, cause it's really on my mind!

I was talking to a friend the other day at a play date, we were discussing our terrible "winter skin"!

I told her about my discovery of Juice Beauty, and she brought up "fish oil".

She said that she takes fish oil supplements to help her skin.

I did some research on this and found out the following:

Fish oil containing the Omega 3 essential fatty acid EPA is said to help prevent wrinkles and can delay the ageing process of the skin according to recent research published in the Journal of Lipid Research in 2005. Symptoms of Omega 3 fatty acid deficiency include skin problems like eczema, dandruff, dry and flaking skin and poor wound healing.

So basically, fish oil slows the process of getting those unsightly, and dreaded wrinkles! to bang or not to bang??

Ok, I know that title sounds extremely perverted, but what I am actually talking about is cutting bangs!!
It's the new year, and it's time for a new look!
I am a big fan of bangs! Not only do they cover up my unfortunate frown line...but I just think they look fresh and on trend!
Bangs are not the right move for all hair styles but, when done right can really add to your existing do!
There are a few different styles of bangs:

Straight Bangs- The hair is combed straight down slightly around the brows.
Parted Bangs- Parted either down the middle or off center slightly.
Choppy Bangs- Uneven and choppy and add flair to the hairstyle.
Side Swept Bangs- Swept to one side usually in a sleek fashion.
Wispy Bangs- Slightly sprinkled lightly over the forehead
Blunt Bangs- Cut in a blunt manner and come down over the forehead
Wavy Bangs- Curled or waved before being swept over the forehead

I suggest talking to your hair stylist before cutting bangs to find out if it is the right look for your facial features! If it is, GO FOR IT!! You can always grow them out if you do not like them. But, if you never try them, you will never know how fabulous they really are!!

I thought I would stick to the "cheap beauty products" theme for today.

I used Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash for years, and LOVED it! However, the "recessionista" in me did not love the $22.00 price tag. So, I started to look elsewhere for my face wash. I am all about the high-end cosmetic industry, but lately I have played around with some of the grocery store brands, and I have got to tell you, I am impressed. I was especially interested in a way to get rid of my puffy eyes, in the morning!! I think I have tried every eye cream that Kiehl's makes and nothing was helping. organization tips...

The other day, I suggested to organize your closet and drawers as part of your New Years resolution. I gave advice on closet organization, but left out how to organize your drawers!
Have no fear...I am here to help!

For the dreadful sock and panty drawers, I have to perfect and inexpensive solution.
The Container Store's deep drawer organizers work perfectly for socks, panties and bras!
They fit nicely in most drawers and offer generous capacity.

For your sock drawer, organize by color and thickness(winter socks together, and summer socks together). You can also organize your tights the same way!

For your messy bra and panty drawer, organize bras by type (strapless together, etc..) and by color. Do the same for your panties (all thongs together, all boy shorts together, etc...).
By doing this, I promise you will feel so much better and you will never have to dig through that sock drawer again to find matching socks!

Resolutions...

I hope everyone is a having a joyous holiday season!!

With the new year approaching, it's time to make some resolutions!
The new year is the perfect time to re-vamp your wardrobe, and in doing so you will look better and feel so much better about yourself! Here are a few tips to help you get started:

1. Clean out your closet and drawers- make 2 piles, one to keep and one to purge. When purging ask yourself: Does this fit me? Does it make feel good? Do I even like this? IF you answered no to any of these...PURGE it!
2. Once you have your keep pile, organize it! Put sweaters in one place, summer tees in another, make it logical. This will really help when putting together outfits.
3. All sorted and organized??Time to shop. Buy key pieces to add to your wardrobe to rebuild your foundation.
My advice...follow Tim Gunn's advice below:

The Ten Essential Wardrobe Elements as described by Tim Gunn are practical pieces around which you can build your wardrobe around. Tim Gunn is the reality star on the makeover television show on Bravo called Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. He became well known from Bravo's hit TV show Project Runway, where he gave advice to contestants on their stylish creations. Tim Gunn is the Chief Creative Officer at Liz Claiborne INC, where he is helping the company rebuild and return to it's roots.

Basic Black Dress - The basic black dress has been around for a long time. It is often called the "Little Black Dress", and it's true that shorter skirts on the basic black dress, when they hit you in the right place, can be more flattering than a long black dress.

Trench Coat - The trench coat is one of the pieces that is both classic and currently a hot fashion item. Most any store sells this piece now. It is great for fall and you can pick it up in a wide range of lengths.

Dress Pants - Although it doesn't say black, this is probably what you want to look for. Black is flattering on all figures and goes with everything.

Classic Shirt - The white shirt is a definite classic. But it can also come in many different styles to make it look trendy and not dated or like a man's piece of clothing. Skirt - If you need dress pants then you also need a skirt. A skirt is womanly and can be flirty or businesslike. Nowadays women do not wear many skirts or dresses, which makes a lot of them fall into a rut of dressing sloppily or like men. See number 8.

Day Dress - Women also are not wearing as many dresses anymore. It was certainly liberating to go from the '50s when women wore dresses every day to wearing more practical pants for gardening, exercising, and so forth. But the dress does not have to be abandoned altogether. They can be very flattering, and there is nothing wrong with "dressing up" for daytime.

Jacket - A jacket does not have to be masculine. Find one with a proper, fitted shape. Women's jackets should follow the silhouette of a woman's body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist. It is also a perfect piece to put with the skirt or dress pants, and white shirt. Or make it casual with a pair of jeans.

Sweatsuit Alternative - As mentioned before, women wear fewer skirts and dresses these days. But some women have taken casual to the extreme and spend days on end in sweatsuits. It is possible to be casual and comfortable without looking like a slob. Find a comfortable material (that's why this doesn't say jeans again – denim is not as comfortable as a nice soft cotton) that you would want to wear every day. It could be khakis, cords, a cotton dress, or much more.

Eggnog Popsicles

What better way to enjoy your favorite holiday cocktail than in a frozen, handheld treat? These are wonderfully indulgent, and the best part is that they will keep in your freezer so you can make them way in advance. So rich and velvety, creamy, and yummy!

Yield: a dozen popsicles

½ pound cream cheese
1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice
1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
1 ½ teaspoons nutmeg
1 cup sugar
pinch of kosher salt
2 tablespoons brandy
2 tablespoons bourbon
2 cups heavy cream whipped until just stiff

Beat the cream cheese in a standing mixer or with a whisk until completely smooth. Thoroughly stir in all of the remaining ingredients except for the whipped cream. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture. Fill popsicle molds with the mixture and allow to set and freeze for at least two hours (if you don’t have popsicle molds, you can use paper cups and popsicle sticks). The texture will be semifreddo-ish.

The Snood...

Remember my post last week about the infinity scarfs? Well, some retailers are marketing the infinity scarf as a "snood" and showing a whole new approach to wearing it!
Bloomingdale's told customers to "make sure they are seen in this lavish new accessory".

A "snood" is a cross between a hood and a scarf, and when worn properly resembles a babushka!
The snood dates back to the 1940's when women wore them to keep their long hair out of the way. In the 50's they showed up on the ski slopes, and most recently they appeared on the fall runway in plaids, fur, and colorful prints. Wrap your circle scarf around your neck a few times and throw the rest up over your head!

Knee socks were all over the fall runways, and in every fashion magazine! They are a chic way to keep warm this winter and can be worn with flat boots, heels, ankle boots, almost anything! Knee socks are an inexpensive, instant update to your look! Depending on how you wear them, you can pull off several different looks.

Here are a few that I found from J.Crew. I like the way they pull off this trend in a classy, yet a little bit sexy way!

Solid knee highs for $12.50- Made from Modal with a hint of stretch. Shown here with shorts, but they also look great with skirts that fall a little above the knee. Wear them with a great pair of pumps!

These thigh high socks are made from merino wool with a hint of stretch for $18.50. I love these with ankle boots as shown, or with a knee high flat boot! I think many moms have this perception that the "mall" photography studios are no good!

Well, I am here to tell you, that is not the case! I am a mom totally obsessed with pictures! I take a lot of them on my own, and also had a professional come to our home when my son was a newborn to get some "baby" shots. Although I love the pictures that I take, I like having the professional pictures to hang in our home. I have some great hair advice that I thought I would pass along. I am always trying to achieve the perfect "blow out" on my own!
Now that the weather is getting cold, we really can not afford to "air dry" our tresses any longer, without the fear of getting sick (H1N1 stay away)!!
I know as moms, that we do not have a ton of time to style our hair. But if we just take 10-15 minutes a day to give it a good blow out...it will last for a few days.
I recently found some good advice for when you are giving yourself a "blow out", it not only helps save your hair from the heat, but gives it a ton of volume too!

Oscar Blandi, one of the most sought after hair stylists in Hollywood, suggests the following when blowing out your hair:

Use the cool setting on your dryer until most of your hair is dry, then use the hot setting to style with a round brush. This will save your hair from drying out!
Dry most of your hair upside down on the cool setting, then once it is almost dry lift your head up and style with round brush on hot.

I tried this advice, and it works, and it really did not take much longer either!
Save your hair and give it a try!

Let's face it, we all like getting something for free, especially these days! I have found that more and more retailers are implementing reward programs to intice shoppers! These programs are not just for groceries anymore! From books to makeup, retailers are giving the consumer a way to earn something for their continued loyalty. I have found 2 in particular that I really love!! Sephora's Beauty Insider program and Nordstrom's "mod card". The Nordstrom "mod card" is more like a debit card than a rewards program, however, I treat it like one! You will understand once I explain!
I am a strong supporter of these programs. If a store is going to reward you for shopping, why not give them the business over the competition. If I have to buy make-up I will go to Sephora just so that I can earn points! If I have to buy anything else, I go to Nordstrom (my friends can attest to this)!!!
Here is how each one works:

Instead of using a Nordstrom credit card (my husband would kill me) I use the Mod Card. It acts as a debit card. Each week, the total amount I have spent at Nordstrom gets added up and deducted from my checking account. Why use this and not just use my debit card you ask?? Nordstrom gives me 2 points per dollar spent on my mod card! When I total 2000 points I receive a $20.00 Nordstrom Note (gift certificate) in the mail! During certain times of the year, (Anniversary Sale and 1/2 yearly sale) they will give you double or triple the amount of points per dollar spent! So I figure, why not give Nordy the business, if they are going to give me something in return!!

Sign up for a free Beauty Insider card and start earning points immediately. You get 1 point per dollar spent and then receive a free delux sample when you reach 100 points!, enough for multiple uses and I fell in love! They also give you a "get-gorgeous"gift on your birthday! So, why wouldn't you shop at sephora for your beauty needs??!!

I wish I could be a fly on the wall when my college friends read this blog entry!! When my sorority sisters first met me, on the first day of rush, I was decked out in animal print!! I am talking leopard hat and denim jacket lined in leopard faux fur! I have yet to live that one down!! Well girls get ready, cause animal print is back this fall in a big way! Just because I am a mom now, does not mean that I am not going to pull that hat and jacket out of the archives and sport it proudly! I bet you can't wait to see pictures!

Animal print is everywhere right now, from sweaters to handbags, there are small, inexpensive ways in which you can add this hot trend into your wardrobe!

As I get older, I have noticed that it is a little harder to achieve perfectly, flawless skin. I am not one to wear foundation, so I was at a loss! I received a free sample of Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer at Sephora a few months ago, and fell in love! You can use as a primer for under your foundation or alone. The primer is made of a really lightweight blend of vitamins A&E, grape seed extract and green tea, so not only does it give you a smooth velvety finish but it is great for your skin! free from chemicals

Did you know that most of the shampoos on the market have the same harsh chemicals that are found in garage cleaners and engine degreasers?? It's true! Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates, the same Surfactants that are used in household cleaners are used in our shampoo! These harsh detergents are cheap to use, which is why they end up in our shampoo. The theory that the more the shampoo foams and bubbles the better it is...is NOT TRUE! It means that product has more harsh sulfates in it, which damage your hair! Studies have been done to show that continued use of these chemicals leads to hair loss! Ladies, I know you do not want that to happen! These harsh chemicals are also the culprit for fading hair color (highlights, all over color, etc). If you are like me, and spend A LOT of money a year on your hair, then you will want to listen up! I am here to save your hair! Companies are starting to create sulfate-free shampoos. I have tried a few, and have some favorites:

1. Enjoy- sulfate free hydrating shampoo and conditioner $59.00 for 32 oz on amazon.com(includes both shampoo and conditioner)

2. Tigi- Bed Head Superstar Sulfate free shampoo $22.96 for a 25 oz bottle on amazon.com

3. Pureology- Hydrate shampoo and conditioner $85.99 for 33 oz set on amazon.com

4. L'oreal EverPure- the most inexpensive sulfate free that I have found. In my opinion it is not as hydrating as the others mentioned, but if you do not need a lot of hydration then this could work for you! Shampoo is $5.97 at Walmart.

These are just a few sulfate free shampoos that I have tried, there are many more out there! Please take my advice and give these a try! You may spend a bit more then you normally would, but you are going to save your hair!!

Halloween is fast approaching!! Do you have a costume party to go to and your not sure what to wear, or a gathering at your child's school and you need to look festive, just not sure how?!! I have found that dressing up for Halloween is a tricky thing as an adult and especially now as a mom! I do not want to be that person that goes over board, but at the same time I do not want to be that mom that is a total bore and does nothing at all! SO, if you are in the same predicament, I have a few fun solutions!! I have come up with some fun, inexpensive ways to celebrate the holiday without having to use fake blood!

1. Grab a fun pair of halloween themed knee high socks and wear with a simple black dress or skirt, and a cute pair of black flats. (2 pairs above by Betsy Johnson from TJ Maxx $7.99 for both) This look works well for a daytime or night time party, depending on how short the dress is!!

2. Wear a pair of fishnets with a black dress or skirt and throw on a witch's hat! Pull of the witch costume without going over the top or breaking the bank, oh and you can look sexy too!

3. Grab a pair of devil horns or cat ears and wear with a black dress(cat ears shown with feathers from costumesinc.com for $8.99).

With all of these looks you should wear one of the following nail polishes:

Suzie skies in the Pyrenees (gunmetal) or Here today...Aragon tomorrow (dark green) or just a plain black polish!

Let's face it moms, we do not get out as much as we used to! So, when we do...we must make a statement! I am talking, look in the mirror and say "wow"! A "statement necklace", is a great way to add a little spice to your outfit with out having to buy new clothes. You can add a necklace to a simple top and jeans, and all of a sudden you are ready for a night out!
Here are a few that I found, in a couple of different price ranges:

J.Crew Jeweled Garland Necklace $150.00- I love the grosgrain bows and the handset glass stones on this piece, it feels very feminine. Would look great with an LBD!

As promised, here is something helpful for around the house! Many of you may know this trick already, but my mother in law told me about it and it really works!
Do your bath towels start to smell after awhile? Well I have a solution..vinegar!
Yes, plain white vinegar. Add a cup of vinegar to your wash in addition to your detergent.
Depending on how stinky the towels are you may need to do this twice! I promise it works! So, no fashion advice today, but maybe I saved you some money, now instead of buying new towels you can go buy some skinny jeans!!

Not sure what color nail polish to wear this season? I am going to show you my top 5 favorites for Fall 2009! Now remember Moms it is okay to push the envelope a bit! Do not be afraid to try the darker colors for fall! Yes, you may want to get those rubber gloves out when you are doing the dishes...but oh well that is the price we pay to look good! Oh and did I mention go treat yourself to a manicure, these colors are a little difficult to do on your own!

Ok, so here are my favorites:

1. Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI- This is my tried and true all time favorite! This deep burgundy shade looks great on shorter nails. It gives that almost black look without appearing too goth!

2. Mink Muffs by Essie- If you want a more classy refined look, this is the color you want for Fall! This taupe shade is certainly less edgy than some of the darker colors, however still very in style!

3. Midnight Cami by Essie-

This inky hue is great for a more sexy/sultry look ! Great for a night out with the husband. Again this darker shade looks great on shorter nails, and toes too!

4. Here today...Aragon Tomorrow by OPI- Green polish is new this Fall and is all over Hollywood!

This dark emerald hue is definately edgy, but

very fun to wear! It is a great color to wear during the holidays!

5. Suzi Skies in the Pyrenees by OPI-

This blue/grey shade is perfect for this season's polished looks!

Grey is everywhere this fall and now it is on your hands too! This shade also comes in a matte finish or "suede". I would not recommend this finish for moms, as it does not have the staying power of the gloss finishes!

Mad about Plaid

I have to tell you, I am loving plaid right now! I guess it is sort of reminiscent of my days at Abercrombie and Fitch, when over sized plaid shirts were all the rage (back in the 90's)! It has that warm and fuzzy feeling, while still looking a bit British glam! I have even suggested to my husband to sport the plaid shirt this year!

This hot trend is very versatile, and can be added to your wardrobe in many fun ways! As always, I am going to give you a few suggestions!

1. with leggings (shocker)!!- for this fun look, do not be afraid to check out the men's section to find a great shirt in a small or medium

2. skinny jeans- again, glance through the men's section or find a cute tunic at places like Forever 21 or Nordstrom Brass Plum.

3. scarf- pair a great plaid scarf with a menswear inspired top or even just a plain tee and your favorite jeans

4. rain boots- get out those leggings or skinny jeans again and look super cute in the rain! Pair with a long cardigan. Check out Nordstrom for Sperry Top-Sider boot (shown above)

5. Hair accessories- splurge and go for a Burberry hair band, it is a timeless piece you will enjoy for years!

So whether you opt for an extravagant hair band or some fun in the rain...I hope you go mad for plaid like me!!

Whether or not you have been touched by this horrible disease personally or know someone who has, it is something that we can all come together as women and help find a cure for! My mother in law is a 2 time breast cancer survivor, so this is something that is very close and personal to my family and me. Each year I make sure to donate to this cause! out with the old

I woke up the other morning and put on my usual: workout pants and a t-shirt, however, I was immediately disgusted!! My t-shirts were all starting to get arm pit stains!

How could this happen?? I guess these t-shirts were a little older than I remembered them to be! I wasn't going to let myself get defeated by these gross little things in my drawer!

I immediately remembered what my good friend Lauren Rothman, a stylist in Washington DC, told me once:

She tells her clients; "THROW AWAY all of your old arm pit stained t-shirts! There is no reason you should be wearing them! You will feel so much better once you do it!"

So, I did it! I threw away all of my old nasty t-shirts! It was so liberating!! My dog looked at me like I was nuts!

During my t-shirt trashing frenzy, I knew in the back of my mind that I could go to the Gap Outlet, and for no more than $12.00 a t-shirt, I could replenish my drawer!

So that is what I did, and I feel so much better every morning!!

The Gap Outlet has great t-shirts in pima cotton(very soft), cotton with a bit of stretch, in crew neck or v-neck and in a wide variety of colors! If you happen to be there during one of the 50% off t-shirt sales they will only be around $6.00. They are great quality for the price!
